There was a lot of hype for his debut album, and I remember being so excited when the track list was announced. I wasn't the craziest about DBR, but there was enough songs on it to make me a fan. to answer the original question □ the song that blew me away for the first time I would believe to say is 90210, it consistently is one of my favorites and I got so many memories with it It helped me get my mind off real life & an escape through the music & my girlfriend. It was the same year I graduated high school & my mom got diagnosed with cancer though. That era got a special part of my life & Travis music in general was the soundtrack to alot of my favorite memories. I got to see him live again with my girl at the Weeknd concert & it was crazy that the crowd was so dead for everything besides Antidote. It was pretty crazy seeing him get so much bigger after Rodeo & all the guest appearances, working with (and dating?) Rihanna on her album + all the Pablo sessions. I was a big supporter of his since early 2013 before OP dropped, tried putting all my friends on through the years my same friends who I showed years earlier starting to hear about Travis with Antidote lol. I met the love of my life that year (who now we just passed 7 years) & following the hype from Days Before, the Nothing But Net & High Fashion drops, crazy snippets, the hype on KanyeToThe, 3500, Antidote on Soundcloud & seeing it go huge as a mainstream success. The lead up to Rodeo in 2015 was honestly one of the best / craziest years of my life. Stopped hating on non lyrical artists like Future and Thugga and got off the dicks of MCs like Earl Sweatshirt and Ab Soul Production, the way a song is structured and delivery is just as important as lyricism. Once Rodeo dropped I began to understand that great hip hop music doesn’t have to be centered around lyricism. Let me tell you when I first heard Pornography I knew there was something special to this dude, shit was amazing and I finally understood why there was so much hype for this guy. I couldn’t help but had to listen to the album the first day it came out I think was September 23rd. That gave me a reason to care less about Travis Scott as he was just a wannabe A$AP Rocky like the haters would say.Īround September when the album hype was at its highest, the leaks were already on the internet. Complex started covering Travis Scott even more, Trav was a real asshole at that time and made some headlines for just being a straight up dick. Even showed me a music video but I could care less who he was as I was still on that “anything that isn’t lyrical isn’t good” mindsetĬome summer of 2015 I see more and more stuff about this album Rodeo that is being hyped up by fans. Had a friend tell me about Travis Scott around 2014-early 2015.
